I find Uber’s aggressive business practices to be off-putting and I’ve made blowhardy statements at parties that I would never ever use their service. That said, when I was finally forced to capitulate yesterday and download the app, I was more than pleased when a brand new Lexus LS 600h showed up with all the back seat bells and whistles. Reclining ventilated seats with power sunshades for cheaper than a yellow cab? Sign me up.

Watch out for your cornhole.

Didn’t make you a hypocrite, you just had to rescind your statement.
Really though, you just got a nicer car than the other customers probably tend to get. Idk anything about uber though, can’t give a shit about a taxi service when I have my own car.

oh wow, I remember when this came out on the LS back in the day. Cool to see the dang ES has it. Neato!

Would you happen to mean the LS 460? I don’t think Lexus offers any rear-seat packages like that for the ES, and the shape of the console resembles the one the LS has.

All of my Uber experiences have been good so far. I use them to get to the airport on work trips (we aren’t allowed to park at the airport because it usually costs WAYYYYYY more than an Uber/Taxi/Towncar to park for as long as I’ve been out sometimes). I also tend to use UberX as I’m pretty far outside the Seattle city limits and they seem to be more prevalent out here.

See? The free market’s pretty good, innit?

You’re right, typed too quickly. Edited.

It actually was an LS, I hadn’t had my coffee yet.

That’s nice. I always seem to end up with a Highlander when I use Uber. What level of service did you use?

I don’t care about the Uber hate, it costs $7 to get downtown and is super easy. Don't have to worry about drinking and driving or parking.

UberX, which is why it was so surprising.

That is quite a set amenities for UberX

I’ve just got econoboxes, but frankly I couldn’t care less. I get to sit in the front, AND I have really had it with the cabs around here. One honked at me when I was crossing on the light in front him (he had a red and I had the walk symbol) and then when I confronted him about it, he said he wasn’t honking at me. What the fuck.
The other day I was sitting on my porch and I watched one blow the stop sign in front of it at 60km/h (40 mph) You don’t have to come to a complete stop, but damn man try slowing down to like 20 mph or something. I wont ever use a taxi again as long as I can.

Same. I approve. I also hope to moonlight for them once I get a less ridiculous car.

They are definitely onto something or they wouldn’t have blown up like they did over the last few years. I just think their methods of muscling competition out of certain markets, like systematically placing fake ride requests with other services to screw them out of business, are kind of reprehensible.

Why would you want to sit in front? I had to do that once during the week of cab-sharing that followed Hurricane Sandy when all the subways weren’t working. I got in the front seat, but the backseat passengers soon got out and then it was just me riding shotgun with this cabbie for 25 minutes. He eventually started ranting about Malcom X, it was awkward.

Shared taxis common in the third world. Front seat is the best seat!! Why sit cramped in the back when you can sit in the front!

I convinced my friends to go in on two Ubers when we went to NYC. One of them was a nearly brand new Hyundai Santa Fe and the other was a Prius V. Both times, the drivers got out and helped us get our bags in the vehicle. I was impressed.

At tech training, we raced an LS600hL with my friend in the back (reclined and massaged) against a IS-F pre production down an empty Dallas toll road. It was even until about 100mph when the IS-F pulled away slowly.

I believe it, I could feel the pull.

How much was it? I still haven’t hopped on the Uber wave but do they tell you the price of the trip BEFORE you order the car? I keep seeing horror stories of people getting charged ridiculous prices/surge prices and I’d like to avoid that.

33 bucks from Flushing to the UES. Traffic was pretty heavy too, it would have cost a fortune in a yellow cab. And yeah as you go to set the destination pin on the map UI a price preview pops up.

Okay so I might try this this Saturday. Me and a few friends are going to Calico Jacks on 43rd and 2nd Ave. to see the Mayweather/Paq fight. It’s $40 to get in/Open bar from 9-midnight so I am NOT driving anywhere and would much rather split a cab at the end of the night.
If you’re not doing shit Saturday definitely come see the fight.
